I guess cause the sense of shock? The mc wasn’t supposed to see and he was afraid of how the mc would react but you’re right, authors do make these cheap interactions to get the characters hurt.

If you think the comics has bad pacing, is chaotic, has plot holes and people are behave out of character, you should see how bad it was in the novel - and the one I've read was equally as bad with the translations xD
how tf you gonna drop the weapon right in front of the people you fighting. and turn your back too??? I’m calling bs the author could have made this scene play out better rather than this lazy attempt to have a ml gets hurt scene that happens in every story ever. I’m fine with how the scene ends, but that whole chapter was a mess. the zero common sense in the room just pissed me off the story gets lost cause it was so stupid. the way I could keep going
