I find it’s a pretty natural response to being neglected all your life. He is very mad at her but he still somewhat love his mother and it’s a way to get her attention, and somewhat revenge.
I’m not saying it’s good, but a character that’s all good or all bad is usually boring.
I am sympathetic towards his mother bcuz she was a political hostage, she has no power whether or not she wanted to get pregnant. That’s her only “value”, I don’t expect someone in that situation to grasp motherhood, not when she was young and taken away from her homeland. I like complex characters but I dislike him the most.
She didn’t choose motherhood but he didn’t choose to be born or to be neglected by both his parents. You can see in the flashbacks that he tried hard to be liked by his mother. He just gave up and the love he should have felt was replaced with hatred. I’m not saying you have to like him or anything, just trying to explain how I see things.
