Sorry I don't think this is it. The mother was actually alive and didn't die. She's actually featured in the 1st chapter and she had a face. The main couple were also high school students.
It's a yaoi about this student who is straight because his father was gay and left their family for another man, his mother was distraught and made him promised to never be like his father. Then he met this guy and then he turned gay. Sorry can't remember the full thing, does this seem familiar?
