This is so simple. How about NOT to get chummy with a child? They could've done that (maybe about her catching feelings) when he's a fcking ADULT. IS THAT HARD TO UNDERSTAND? Even that on its own when she literally watched him grow up, even for just a brief moment, it's still disturbing.
Improved the environment for the kid, have a bond with him that'll never be broken, be blushing WITH THE KID for little to no reason. Is THAT not textbook grooming?

but as I read the story I don't think she showed any signs of romantic feelings for him as a child, she mostly just find him cute and endearing, there are also no scenes of her thinking as such, in her mind she always thinks that they will divorce one day, and his destined for someone already

It's okay- both of y'all voiced out understandable reasons for your opinions.
But if I may (￣∇￣") the act of making you a child's only hope is indeed a start for grooming. Making an abused child depend on you is one of those groomers way.
But- it will only be grooming if the groomer will use the child for sexual needs in the future which the FL won't do.
Do I want the FL to be with a 20 year old man just cuz she has a mentality of one? No, tf no.

The eek when it comes to this type of tropes is whenever we are reminded that the MC is an "adult" taking care of a child in a child's body. It's like grooming in disguise even though without the sexual need part.
