Well, in the latest chapter it was kinda explained why she looks “ugly”….
I think there was a spell on the eyeglasses that make her look ugly. I do agree that media always portray ugly people with curly/shaggy hair and eye glasses.

Because I honestly hate it when they put an "ugly" label without any reason for a character with glasses, freckles, dull-colored hair, or curly/shaggy hair like what you said. Like honestly, I find people with all of these characteristics to be charming, so I can't help but cursing whenever I encountered this kind of nonesense
She is actually very cute though? Even with glasses and that rough appearance (?). I don't understand those people in those era and world talking about, I don't understand their beauty standards. She is clearly adorable by her glasses alone, her height, and her body frame. And the way she talks is actually adorable too.
