Uhm I’m news for you bc everything you said it’s what I feel as a novel reader.
karas isn’t gonna grow, in fact he only cares about Abel and doesn’t care about anyone else even though he’s he’ll rule the kingdom.
karas brutality is just gonna keep getting worse and he doesn’t redeem himself (which is why I don’t like him)
As for Abel he likes to baby karas. He knows karas is a psychopath and he tries to slowly teach him to care about others but it doesn’t work.
Your right about the side characters bc I also thing they’re the best part of the story especially Asher, Melmond, and the butler, Asher being my favourite.

oh damn thats pretty disappointing, especially cause this got off to a pretty neat start. i rly like morally ambiguous characters and unconventional relationships, but they obviously have to be done well. based on what you said, and based on what ive read so far...i don't think that's happening. oh well! not for me i guess. thanks for letting me know Lol
ML is the weakest link. Once abel resurrects he kind of loses the charm to his character and his ditzy nature just kinda falls flat. i don't really see how they can ever redeem the ML. the side characters are excellent and i honestly think the story would benefit from focusing on them/fleshing them out a bit more. the humor of this story is its strongest point. say what you want about it, but it can be rly fucking funny. idk how the story is gonna justify the complete brutality of karas, and it's not even like an interesting exploration into the deformation of morality through war - he's literally just a complete and total monster except when it comes to abel, and knowing abel's character, i really don't think he would like a person like that.
all in all, these characters have the POTENTIAL to be very endearing, but they fall short. i have to say, i'm a bit disappointed. i really hope abel's character isn't neutered for the sake of romance - i don't think he'd support or fall for anyone like abel, and probably will only do so BECAUSE its karas and this story is a romance. im actually interested in seeing the individual character growth of karas himself, outside of abel. does he feel guilt? shame? i wanna know. this could be soooooo good but it just gets lazy at times.
