Yaoi basically means it contains smut.
There's a difference between YAOI and SHOUNEN AI.
SHOUNEN AI doesn't have any smut scenes, just some lovely dovey, kisses, hugs... relationships etc.
It also goes for hentai. There's a difference between HENTAI and ROMANCE genre.
HENTAI is like YAOI, it has smut scenes but most HENTAI is just straight porn with no plots. Then comes shoujo ai and shonenXRomance manhwa's that contains no smut. (Maybe a few but not in every chapter)
