U r reading too much into it. The Ml's personality is like this . We saw him in Omega complex too . Nothing changed. Plus if u read the novel u'll realize a lot of things so let's not spoil for readers here. Ml hid a lot of things and Mc's mom is weird. But that's it. ML is a gentleman. Sm1 whome the mc can be with without thinking too hard if he will turn toxic . He is perfect they way he is and it is not about balance and no one can be a 10 out of 10 ( only the solo leveling mc or jay jo of wind breaker can ). The ml is stuck between the mc abd his mother. He reads a lot Into it too and this is stupid but this is drama genre the author decided
I can tell that this is his personality but ml and mc s relationship still feels like teacher student type of relationship. Mc is like a child with him. And ml is leading it. I dont hate ml. I love manipulative mls, especially if they are actually good guy. But reading it from mcs point of view, i hated how ml acted towards him. I simply explained my frustration.
May I ask which part of the novel you’re up to? Because the second half of the main story and all the side stories focus on Dohyun’s character in so much detail that your impression of him can completely change by the end of it.
Your right to think that there’s a power imbalance and that Dohyun acts ‘manipulative’, but I think all the things you’re worried about will be addressed, and no Dohyun definitely doesn’t get away with it! Would 10/10 recommend you finish the rest.
Ok so i finished the novel to the end.
So from what i understood, him being 16 wasnt the reason he rejected him. That talk was weird but in the end, i am glad that isnt really the reason. And about the teacher-student thing, i loved the lovers and chasing arc. I understand Do Hyun's situations. It was a good read. My only complain is that Wooyeon shouldnt have apologised to him at the end. Because regardless of everything happenned, he was in pain because of this love far too long. And i wish he didnt forgive him so easiely. I wished he took more times to forgive him completely. And sometimes, their relationship dynamic still feels weird but since his age wasnt the real reason he rejected, i dont mind that much. I hope one day, Wooyeon and their relationship grow out of it.
Anyway, thanks for Rec. For reading it until the end. The situation i mentioned in comment is still frustrating to me but well, later it gets better at least. I enjoyed the drama and characters, lol.
Woah that was fast. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I think Dohyun did initially reject Wooyeon because he was 16 (technically a minor) or at least that was still part of the reason. That being said, during their university life, that stopped becoming a reason because Dohyun doesn’t care about age gaps (since he chased after Yoonwoo in Omega Complex when he was 20 and Yoonwoo was probably 25).
About Dohyun’s personality, as frustrating as it was, I think it’s also exactly why this story is so good. It explains all of his actions since Omega Complex. He was abandoned by his parents so he became ‘perceptive’, ‘scared of being abandoned’ and ‘desperate for love’. For example, he was able to find out Yoonwoo was an omega in the first chapter of OC because of his ‘perceptiveness’ and fell in love with him because he liked the way Yoonwoo loved Taegyeom (to the point of hiding his second gender).
It also explains why Dohyun craved for Wooyeon’s love during their tutoring days, and why he was desperate to maintain that same image Wooyeon had of him by hiding his pheromones/smoking pheromone cigarettes among other things. Dohyun’s relationship with Wooyeon feels weird because he acts fake, but it’s also because he’s scared of being abandoned that he unintentionally puts up a wall with the people closest to him (including his parents and Jinah). Since it’s a habit that’s been ingrained in him since childhood, I think he realistically can’t be changed that easily.

Ok so i didnt read the whole novel but to read some point and i learnt that ml rejected mc back then because he was 16 and ml was 20. So rightfully, he thought it was the right thing to do. Because you know "the power imbalance".
And now, mc is 20, an adult so its okay....but heres the problem;
Yes mc is adult. 20 years old brain is different than 16 years old brain. Meanwhile 20 years brain is similar to 24 years old brain.
But the thing is; during those 4 years, mc was still isolated and never had friends. He still is similar to who he was when he was 16 but this isnt the problem. The problem is;
Ml is very kind realable, nice guy but maybe because of his trauma or beliefs,he plays a lot of mind games. Yes maybe thats his personality, i get it but you can see there is still "power imbalance" in their relationship. Mc is like open book while ml plays with him pretty much.
Oh yes maybe he wanted to play safe. Maybe he wanted him to talk with him and be honest first but this doesnt change the fact that he was manipulative and played mind games to get upper hand, and control in relationship. Which it worked.
My problem with this; this is basically the main reason why he rejected him 4 years ago because they arent equal as teacher and student. And years later, instead of trying to be honest anf open so that he could have equal relationship with mc; ml played with him.
I know he loves him. I know he is good guy. But this was really frustrating and i really wanted to share. Personally this is why i loved omega complex and their relationship more than those two, even though this alpha trauma's mc is a character i really adore. I also like ml, he is the type of character i like with mls but in this story, the way things worked was frustrating. And i wish this was properly adressed as issue in their relationship. I didnt finish the novel so i dont know. But well..this is my opinion. Thanks for people who read this. *sigh* thats all.
