I don’t know why people say toxic bottoms are refreshing, they really aren’t unless you haven’t read much with toxic bottoms (old school Yaoi is crazy example).
I think what’s refreshing is the tops being sexually assaulted. In mafia stories, in school life, in all secondary genres, it’s majority bottoms being SA’ed.
Like all the guys in existence have to be attracted to or want to SA the bottom, but little to none for tops. As soon as endgame gets together, a rival comes and wants the bottom.
