You can't carry pepper spray? What kind of BS is that, how else are you supposed to protect yourself if you're not a fighter?

In Brazil, it's forbidden in volumes over 50ml. Ginger spray is usually used as a substitute. The best way to protect yourself if you're not a fighter is to run.

In my country it's also a forbidden item cause it's the same category as weapon. You can get to jail for carrying it without a license. Same goes with taser etc.

Crazy but there was a case where a woman had a restraining order against an ex and was eventually forced to use her pepper spray on the asshole. She was later on sued that her having pepper spray in her possession proved premeditation.

Also in Brazil (and I imagine in other countries as well), you can't carry weapons like knives/pocket knives, bats (only if you actually play baseball or any sport with bats)
    However
It's perfectly plausible to carry scissors, since it's a common tool not only at school, but at work too
But yeah, criminals here may be armed with firearms, so it's always better not to react
However I think any woman would react when it's clear they're not after your money
It's ridiculous we have to resort to these kinda loopholes

I see many people saying that they carry a knife and some fruit, so if a police officer question why you have a knife, you say it's to peel the fruit
