I kinda get it
When resources are scarce, it's important to consider what's best for the community. Keeping well someone who can provide for the whole lot is sadly more logical than a weak child
It's not morally right, but it's what's best for everyone and they know it

    Uuumm are you okay? LADYBIRD

I am. I'm merely considering the matter in a logical way.
In a setting where there isn't enough for everyone, sadly it's survival of the fittest. As I said it's not humanly right, it sucks, but certain decisions have to be taken.
Be it clear, I'm not in favor of violence. They could've killed the guy in a faster war instead if that massacre, or exile him from the place to fend for himself.

And about everyone voting to kill him off... That could also be cuz they're scared of Guwon, who has set the rules, so in the end he kinda has the last word even if he doesn't quite know it.
We already know that something isn't right with him. I wouldn't be surprised if the folks tried to avoid going against him in any way out if survival instinct, even if it means casting someone out

In the end, survival seems to mean more than doing the morally right thing
