the word misogyny has lost all meaning if you think that a female side character being written like a typical straight man would write one is misogynistic (really poorly and solely as an object/accessory for MC and a target for straight male audiences to self-insert)

Yes, but that’s the point. It’s their opinion, andthey’re allowed to have their own opinion. Just like you’re allowed to have your own opinion. And no one required that your opinions in their opinions be the same. They’re allowed to hate a fictional character that doesn’t exist in reality. Aren’t you the one getting overly worked up and calling names?

unfortunately this isn't an opinion, it's a target of research within feminist/women's study spaces and has quite a lot of research and analysis

it's like saying toxic masculinity or the color blue is an opinion lmfao

Hating annoying, female characters in fiction series is a study? Which respectable organization is doing the study? I’m curious what it is they have to say.

First of all, someone doesn’t have to be a feminist to hate certain types of characters.
This blonde bimbo bitch wasn’t even bad ass. She’s always getting her ass saved by her boyfriend. She’s not equally as strong as the male characters. She has unreasonably long hair for a combat professional. She’s got unreasonably large breasts for a combat professional. Those things should be fucking bound. You should not be able to tell the size of her breast so clearly because they should be tied in place. Her personality is whiny. She’s jealous easily. And I question her morality. She’s willing to put other people in danger to test her boyfriend’s feelings for her. No matter what you say I find her annoying. It’s not feminism she’s just a twat.

It’s not that you’re calling a person a name, but that you’re insulting people’s opinion by calling it names. You called it “ misogyny” which is defined as “dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women.”

So it’s fair to say that having someone refer to one’s dislike of a character that poorly represents women as misogyny = insult + lacking credibility according to the definition of the term.

There’s also the part where misogyny really doesn’t need to be tied into this. I hate the character just because I hate the character. Feminism has nothing to do with it. I just think she’s an annoying twat.

Although I can sympathize with people who want to tie it into feminism, given how this particular character poorly represents women, and how she is drawn unrealistically in order to appeal to the average male standards. If she’s a combat professional her hair should at least be pinned up somehow if it’s going to be that long. Her breast to absolutely be bound. And she should have way more muscle than she does. She by no means looks like a female athlete. And she’s got a really annoying personality on top of that. Not to mention the ratio of women to men among the combat characters makes it seem like the system had a preference for awakening males.

BUT- while I can sympathize, I don’t really think that feminism needs to be tied into this. Because so many male characters are drawn according to the female standard. And yet we don’t complain when the male characters are almost never scrawny, chubby, gangly, or anything else. Rather we’re more likely to complain if they are. Which is utterly ridiculous, given that “unrealistic physical standards and overly idealized traits meant to increase desirability, being applied to a gender”, should be offensive when applied to any gender. This kind of thing needs to go on both sides of the = to have anything to do with the equality. Thus, I don’t see feminism as having a right to stand here.

As a woman, I often tell feminists, “I will care about your stance when I hear you tell me the last time you went to a rally to support a man’s right to wear a dress to work. Either give up your pants or stop vying for supremacy.” Being underprivileged, in one aspect, doesn’t mean a group has the right to try and gain unreasonable advantage over another group. This goes for more than feminism btw. Discrimination of any kind will be solved by making one group more advantaged than another.

Uh… F-ing auto correct. The last sentence should read “won’t” not “will be”.

I’m kind of pissed off by how the current auto correct is based so highly on context rather than spelling. I want it to stop correcting words that are already spelled correctly. It will alter the grammar structure and vocabulary of an entire sentence, because I can’t figure out how to spell one word. It makes more errors lately, in voice to text, than it actually corrects. Am I the only one experiencing this?
