Yeah, law is idealistic like that so kinda understandable, Garam should've done way more than a flying kick if he's gonna get in trouble in the end so we can call it 'worth the trouble'

I don't have a lot of knowledge about the laws of Korea so i checked on the self defense article and some similar cases there.
The law accepts self defense on the behalf of another but in reality the police and judges have a bunch of specific parameters to decide if it was self defense and even if you manage to check in all of them, some judges are too stingy when saying someone acted in self defense.

Also police there try to make the involved settle outside court or press charges in both no matter the circumstances.
In this specific situation, the assailant didn't sustain any physical injuries (He received a kick and fell to the ground, but no blood was shed nor open wounds, at most he felt sore at the place hit), No weapon was used and he stopped after making the assailant fall to the ground.
The only aspect that could make it difficult for him is the fact that he hit after the assault, not when it was happening, but any good lawyer could argue that the assailant didn't remove himself from the situation (didn't run away) and as Garam reacted right after, there wasn't any time to define if the assault was continuing or stopped (also, the damage done was infinitely less than having a glass bottle broken on your head).


Anyway, there has been some issues in Korea because of this self defense law and how the court applies it. The situation seems stupid but unfortunately it is depicting quite truthfully how it works there and Korea is quite well known for having an unfair law system towards the victim.
After this, i'm never complaining about the justice system of my country...

Thank you for taking time explaining. This is exactly what I thought, any good lawyer can easily argue about the situation (especially when there's tons of witnesses ready to stand by them). And sadly yes, the country really do love kissing asses of offenders
