Altho i havent really got into the novel I think Gjord has to do that in order for Syllhan not to actually get persecuted. Like if he does run away in Epssen with Gjord it might guarantee Syllan being killed not truly being free coz he is a slave who was meant to be executed in the first place.
Running away with Sylhan is like saying he's really a traitor and would only give justification for these people to kill/persecute him even more. Remember, Gjord might be "powerful' but he also has a bad reputation around the nation. They might be able to run for a month but those greedy people wouldn't stop to hunt them down even more since they would be labeled as fugitives and traitors. It would not be easy for them to do that.

I’m on chap 57 on another link and I’m STILL confused like if ML is so in love with him why doesn’t he just run away with him? Like he has an all seeing eye thing he knows soooo much about mc and yet he’s doing all this admin for revenge while mc lives as a slave and is abused and manipulated by those pos siblings like can he really not see the signs of his ill treatment ahhh it’s so frustrating and everyone is suuuus I need to wait til it’s finished I think
