yeah, I think people were saying that others and some sort of warden would find him with the clothes and rape him or something, but honestly I wouldn’t really understand why the author would add rape by other people since that doesn’t add any depth to the story but more unnecessary rape and trauma to Raymond!! Definitely not needed unless there’s some story or reasoning so hopefully it was just false info cause not looking forward!!

oh it's true. this particular instance is to show the entire faculty and most students is complicit (reflecting back to george's words in ch 1), and to crush mc's naive hopes. but thru out the novel, the mc gets gangraped mutliple times. once, in front of his mother even.

I understand that authors sometimes write or add scenes of rape into manhwas nowadays but it’s starting to feel as though it’s become a reoccurring and somewhat normalised trend for most if not all authors to include or/then gradually romanticise rape in manhwas now… which is honestly so upsetting cause most of them have some form of harassment, abuse, rape or unconsensual behaviour like wtf man; acting like you can’t have progress or a proper plot without all that dark stuff!! a girl can’t enjoy a good manga without allat nowadays… T-T

this is soo true. rape then fall in love. WHAT IS THIS PIPELINE?? and the fact its normalized now too like theres always been stories like this but its everywhere now. I dont see the appeal but some people are so out of touch and will just say “its okay because he actually is in love with him”

in this arc, after he gets gangraped in this instance by the group that finds him, he doesnt get gangraped again by the extras (but he is SA by the principal of the school i think). but in other arcs, especially the next one, he do get gangraped by strangers a lot as a form of revenge by one of the boys. the one with the mom witnessing is in the last arc, and it was the first time they saw each other again since she dumped him in that school. and guess what? that isnt even his last rock-bottom moment; it still progressively gets worse. this story genuinely feels like misery porn.

this novel in particular doesnt romanticize the rape; they're not portrayed in a "sexy" way. the author writes it as rape, straight up, to be disgusted and horrified by. this story never portrays these characters' relationships between lovers as romantic, but explores these different toxic relationships based on stockholm syndrome (ie. mc & Jerome & simon, George & hugh, and another future couple) and why mc & Jerome didnt end in tragedy while the others did. i just wish people would think more critically before putting very inaccurate tags... bc this is far from a "possessive lovers" situation.

no, believe me, this story is different. i hate stores with romanticized rape too, so ive stopped reading stories that start with rape and end with a happy couple and fully resolved conflict (well maybe except one), like fuck off with that shit, but this story leans into the angst elements relentlessly and unlike other stories, doesnt tiptoe around the line to make the ml not quite irredeemable to readers.

there's no begging for forgiveness or monolgues about regret and sorries, bc this story isnt to fulfill that wish-fulfillment trope; it's just a very complex exploration about stockholm syndrome and its long-term effects and the relationships of very broken people. mc gets his revenge on jerome several times actually (killing his horse and nanny, successully strangling jerome to death, humilating jerome in public when he was in a vulnerable state, etc). jerome never really profusely apologized or divulged his trauma to mc bc he knows he doesnt deserve forgivness (in contrast to simon who selfishly says sorries, says he loves him, and begs for him to not leave) and that mc could never come to love him wholly with all that baggage; but despite acting cold to mc, he will always save him in the most crucial moments at the expense of hurting himself, and then proceed to act cold again. he will flirt with mc and stuff, but never take a step further or initiate intimacy with mc again after arc 1 when he wasnt forced to (unlike simon) despite when it becomes clear he loves mc. in fact, when mc did develop stockholm syndrome, jerome was dismayed and shook him out of the delusion that they can live peacefully together, even when it meant reigniting his hatred. in the side stories, although they are together, it's not really a HE as they are still trying to heal from their experiences (jerome in particular is so cowardly he gets anxious but avoids confrontation when he notices mc getting depressed and thinks it bc of simon's death, and only when mc is asleep would he whisper to him "i love you"s repeatedly). ngl im still dissatisfied and i wished there was a clear-cut redemption arc, but it's just not type of story.

just the layering of and repetitive rape over and over again in manhwas actually make me question whether there’re REALLY plots and/or storylines

there is plot tho-- mc's revenge, george's revenge on mc, jerome's revenge on hugh's family, etc. this story takes over the course of 15 years with time skips so the rape is actually periodic and while there is some peaceful moments for mc in which he thought he could escape from the boys and/or move on from them, it's all eclipsed by mc's unrelenting suffering. the trauma will haunt him for the rest of his life and even finding someone he love couldnt make him forget the boys, so for the sake of his survival and not going insane, he chose to lean into his stockholm syndrome. there's no fetish content at all (unless ur a masochist of emotional pain) but if u hate this kind of story, then stop engaging. bc if u hate it now, u will definitely hate it even more as the story progresses. (fun(?) fact: when dwelling on his trauma thru out the novel, he never referred to the boys by name, it's always "the boys on the top floor" or smth like that even when 1-2 of them are dead. these details like that, dehumanizing the abusers into an experience rather than people, elevates the story and is why it's considered so well-written despite the contents)

I haven’t read the novel or anything so I don’t actually know what the future events of the manhwa are, so I’m sorta just going with the flow with released chapters here, but thanks for the insight. Just wondering though, why’s George going to try to get revenge on the mc for?

tbh the novel was one of the most emotional-wrecking stories ive ever read with masterclass writing, so it was very memorable. it also explores stockholm syndrome topic in such a harrowing and heart-rending way ive never seen explored before, so i feel compelled to defend the story when someone make wrong assumptions haha. spoiler for goerge's revenge:




in this arc, mc takes revenge by burning down the dormitory, which kills hugh. this is also a spoiler, but in the next arc, five years after this event, mc who is trying to get thru life (and is forever turned into a bottom) gets kidnapped by a unknown man, who pays a bunch of men to gangrape him. mc discovers jerome and simon are alive and working for this man, and later disovers this man is George who had been disfigured with burns, and he's taking revenge bc his beloved hugh is dead.
