that's what I'm wondering but don't chickens js have to sit over the egg for a bit and then a chick or baby whatever will form in the egg?

just think of it as a period, the eggs are unfertilized and don't have any baby inside. they just come out naturally as part of a cycle

From what I know only mated chickens lay eggs that can hatch into chicks.

chickens need to mate first, they also need a sperm of the rooster before laying an egg so it will fertilize the egg that the chicken will produce otherwise they will just lay blank/unfertilized eggs...
the eggs we normally consume is unfertilized (the white and the yolk) .even if the hen incubate the egg it will not hatch to a chick

now i feel like i am talking to kids, coz didn't we learn this on reproductive lessons in grade school? ( ̄∇ ̄")

ohh srry learned it in biology class, chickens are the common examples so its hard not to not remember but honestly it's almost the same as for humans when it comes to how it happened the difference is they lay eggs and people birth humans..

fun fact: an egg is basically in simplest term - the hen's menstruation
