I think you're confused, yes he is weirdly neutral but what makes you think he is treating/thinking about the hybrids as animals.
I'm seriously asking for the evidence, what exactly has made you think about him like that in the 8 chapters we have?

I think his view on people in general is kinda disjointed, made him feel "weirdly neutral" as you called it. It's evident since first chapter the way he dealt with that cow hybrid. He just accepted that he's a cow and need his nipple to be sucked. While he does mind about legality and ethics, when dealing with the hybrids (specifically the ones in trouble we've met), he quickly does as he sees fit, which is to treat them as he would any animal in pain. He didn't give much thought to it. Maybe they played it down for the porn, but that's really not a normal reaction. He doesn't discriminate, and he doesn't find one any more special than the other (again, his disjointed view), hence I concluded he "doesn't see any difference between humans and animals".

idk, friend, there's a limit to how "silly in his own whimsical way" a person can become until it raises questions. he's silly, i agree, but there's also something not right with him.
Mc's a psycho guys. A gentle one, but psycho nevertheless. He's so unfazed by everything. He doesn't see those hybrids as humans at all, or rather, he finds no difference beween humans and animals in the first place.
