I just noticed that beta protagonists are often self inserts of the author.

Speaking in general. Pretty obvious. They most often look average, are average, have a boring personality, and are betas that through the power of the author, are so so special that they are above the omegaverse and attract all the alphas.

Is this the first manga with beta protagonists you read? Like this is the most common set up.

Maybe...I do remember reading beta protags often where they end up becoming omegas or smth, but also I tend to avoid the kinda mangas u describe.
Could ya rec me some I'm curious now

instead of self-inserts, i think betas are for the *audience* to insert themselves into. betas as a gender are meant to represent the average person w/ nothing special about them. its like dating sims, where the protags are usually super bland/generic for you to project onto

in this case i feel that the beta mc isnt normal tho LOL he’s very violent and temperamental

Damn let me fuc that bottom dude in peace LMAO. I honestly don't see it cause MC is pretty imo and not plain at all, but as long as it's not an obvious 'fanfic' then I'm fine with it
