I agree he shouldn't be in a ship, I however don't think he should be killed either. The new episode kind of shows he genuinely wants to be good but lacks the thought processes to do so. So he shouldn't be put into romantic situations because he genuinely isn't at the stage to really understand it. Only until he can understand empathy can he thrive romantically. Y'know?
