For people wondering when the author will return, they might not.
The loss of a person can drastically change someone, and being creative can be especially hard for someone who is grieving. Sometimes you can't return to old projects if it reminds you of your loss. I hope people won't become hateful if the author chooses not to return to this project (or any other project).
