Ok this makes sense actually cause I'm a Manga reader and my friend started watching this year and he mentioned something and I thought he meant something else. But then when I got to the chapter it resembled more closely what he means but I thought it was just cause I had let it marinate for a while and I thought the anime was just caught up. But dang
This series has another manga with a different artist thats also more advanced. It covers less events but its covering the light novels faster.

I think the anime is following the light novels instead of the mangas and I think the light novels are finished.
Sailor Moon was so popular, the anime was being made faster than the manga could be, that is why the first anime differs, then the anime (crystal) was remade to follow the manga.
they said that the novel has 2 adaption or sumn 1 focused more on romance and other focused more on the plot idfk if its real tho
