i wasted two days reading this dumb book. the mangaka was definitely smoking crack when she made this.
Two whole days oh sh*t! I'd be angry as well xD I actually just skipped through most of the smut (usually don't do this ._.) because it made me a bit uncomfortable haha
man, i’m so mad that i read this trash you call a book. i could write an entire dissertation on this, and it still wouldn’t be enough to explain how bad this book is.
mido deserves NOTHING! i just don’t understand why the mangaka made his character so irredeemable if she was going to give him “salvation” in the end. he never reflects, repents, or does the necessary work to show us genuine change. even if he did, it STILL wouldn’t be enough. you wanna know why? bc, he is a COWARD. a SELF-HATING LOSER in every sense of the word. pathetic hubris of a man who doesn’t even deserve to breathe the same air jichan breathes.
take him spotting jichan for example. this DUMBASS sees jichan in passing, and he automatically thinks that he’s living life comfortably without him. he then plots his revenge against him for “abandoning” him. not once did mido put himself in jichan’s shoes. it never occurred to him to simply talk to the man and tell him how he felt.
no… mido decides to assault, rape, and mock jichan and his efforts in finding mido. yes, the same mido who decided to hurt jichan bc he thought he wasn’t looking for him. to make matters worse, this disgusting piece of fucking shit breaks jichan’s ankle bc he gets scared of him leaving once he finally reveals that he was actually mido this entire time.
NO SHIT SHERLOCK! ofc he was going to fucking leave! you literally abused him, and now you think he should embrace you with open arms just bc you finally want to be honest for the first time in your pathetic life? mido deserves death. nothing more, nothing less.
additionally, the mangaka is so selfish, she practically flips the script on its head by slowly turning the finger onto jichan. mind you, jichan has taken accountability for his actions. in every chapter, he steps up to the plate and faces his issues head-on. for whatever reason, the mangaka forces jichan to, once again, bear the brunt of the responsibility for most of the characters in the book. whether it be mido’s brokenness or the old geezer telling him not to run away from the organization (as if he’s ever been ashamed of being a gangster), jichan has to account for EVERYBODY’S feelings but his own.
the message highlighted in this toxic shitty manga is that if you don’t love yourself like mido, it’s ok, bc strong-willed men like jichan can fix you. it doesn’t matter how much suffering and abuse you put them through, bc a simple “i’m sorry” and passionate sex will heal those wounds.
i love jichan so much, and to see him not only suffer through abuse but also deal with everybody’s toxic emotions truly put me over the edge. i’m not always shaken up by fucked-up stories, but this one really struck a chord.
anyway, it’s such a shame this story went the route it did, bc it had so much potential. we could’ve gotten a story about love, redemption, guilt, finding family, etc. mido’s abandonment issues were interesting due to him not having a family, so his angry feelings towards jichan not being there was valid. the mangaka could’ve explored his psyche and presented us with a flawed character who eventually learns to love himself. mido’s co-dependency is relatable to many, and if done well, the readers could learn more about themselves through his eyes.
but no, all we got was this slop, which sucks. an intriguing story wasted on unnecessary abuse and rape. smh.
