I found a page about sfs spoilers from novel readers and (spoiler ahead) yep he'll actually die. I think he was sick and he didn't want to die pathetically or die unsignificant so he "betrayed" his side and made their enemy think he was on their side. But I think the real plan was to spy and know what's the enemy's move. Huhuhuhuhuhuhu and he kept a secret from Vlad, so Vlad was confused and really felt betrayed.
