For MC their reason was his a late bloomer that's why he can still guide other espers, ML said it was subtle. At the end of the novel MC couldn't even go out of their house without fainting or getting nauseous or scared because of the smell/pheromones/guiding.

ML was already interested in MC coz unlike everyone who was trying to use ML our MC just sees him as a kid back then and it actually saved ML. That's how it started but ML was not dense he noticed that MC avoids him and is scared of him. ML tried to get close to MC slowly but MC keeps on avoiding him and trying to get away from ML which hurts him so much. (I think he almost gave up on MC because he wants to prioritize MCs happiness)
