Hmm times really have changed. I've read a lot of the old ones so I can say for sure that "guess I'm gay" was the norm, but have noticed a shift in this dynamic for the past 5 years or so, albeit not all of them.
It was a common plot material to like girls at first and then when the other male ML comes, he'll say "guess I'm gay now" as if bisexuality didn't exist lol. It's an annoying line I've seen a lot for sure.
