So, I finally read the novel and it’s an unhappy ending.. after Howoo recovers his memories through a process Yool encouraged, he’s enraged and wishes to break up. Yool doesn’t take that lightly and emotionally manipulates him wirh a toy button. After he escaped from Yool, he crashed at his best friend’s apartment, which Yool crashes to recover Howoo. Howoo refuses and states he wants to break up then Yool with the button threatens that if Howoo doesn’t press the button he’ll keep making snow fall on the capital city. Yool doesn’t take that lightly and emotionally manipulates him wirh a toy button. After he escaped from Yool, he crashed at his best friend’s apartment, which Yool crashes to recover Howoo. Howoo refuses and states he wants to break up then Yool with the button threatens that if Howoo doesn’t press the button he’ll keep making snow fall on the capital city. Howoo who becomes distraught doesn’t believe him and calls him on a bluff. Sadly days pass and the city is struggling with the snow. Howoo is so upset at himself bc he feels responsible for the chaos and mayhem and a part of him still feels affection for Yool. He accepts that to stop the snow he must press the button which he does and then guess what? the city wide defenses are brought down and monsters flood the city. The button was the trigger. Yessss ong thank you, I was planning on dropping it soon because I keep hating Yool more & more, this was the push. I wanna know more though, it'd be nice to at least hear the full thing if I can't bear to read it myself

After the button deactivated the city wide defense system, monsters started invading the city and causing even more mayhem. Espers are deployed and everyone is wondering where the two of them are as the soldiers rush to the front line. Back to the couple, after Howoo realizes what’s he done he feels so distraught and disgusted with himself. Yool seeing this back ups and makes a knife out of ice particles and directs it to his own neck. In some weird twist, he kinda insinuates to Howoo that it’s his fault the city is in this mess and that if he wants to get out of this mess he needs to be his exclusive guide. (Earlier before pressing the button Howoo even offered Yool to be a guide sometimes but that their relationship would be null and void.) So to counteract that Yool guilt trips into being a relationship to save the city. Times clicking and Howoo is so devasted to know Yool’s true personality and the lengths he would go to claim him in a “prison,”. He refuses and tells Yool that he isn’t imprinted with him so Yool can find a new guide. That’s when he drops the bombshell that he’s imprinted on him (meaning now the guide must only guide the esper and the esper cannot receive care elsewhere lol). Howoo is so devasted at this moment bc he feels the love Yool has for him is to only ensnare, cage, and inhibit him. Not to adore or love him. Sadly Howoo accepts his fate and after everything settled with the monsters we see high injuries among the esper soldiers. No one died but Howoo still felt burdened by this and felt it as more chains that connected him to Yool. At the series end, Howoo asks him if he can ever tolerate Yool again or accept him. He then ponders off to wonder if he’ll be happy or be in “love,”. Then the series ends.. it broke me at that part. Poor Howoo.


The side stories give off a melancholic vibe too

I know!! I just felt so deflated like a balloon!! It’s just so exasperating tbh. He also questioned his love at the end if maybe Yool brainwashed him to like him. It’s just all around sad :(

What an ending lmao. Usually, when I read Shounen ai, they have such a good flow and ending, I don't mind a bittersweet ending or something, but that's not what I'm expecting from a Shounen ai; it's kind of messy for me, in my opinion. Trace of the Wonder was much better to read than this one. Thank you for the spoiler.
