From what I have seen. He loves her, but more as lustful, Is what I've read, not really entirely sure but I think that's what he feels towards her, he trys to deny his feelings for her, that's why it's "dangerous" and "repressed passion" passion as in lust.
If I remember correctly, it is that he had romantic feelings for her and expressed them by hurting / isolating her? He never really saw her as a sister.

The other replies are correct! He repressed his lust/romantic feelings for her and often would isolate her to maintain a distance or act cold towards her to deny his feelings! He’s a jackass who took his complicated feelings out on Penelope!

Thanks for the explanation~now I know what's going on. The feelings and stuff. Because in the last panel, derrick face looks so distraught. I was only wondering why he look like this and did penelope do anything to him or did his condition because like this because of the brainwash.
I mean even though I didn't like him at this point of time (even from the very start). I don't want him to die or get hurt.
