She's cautious and suspect there's something shady that's why she's thinking those words that you put on example and the reason why she's self hating, maybe the author intend to show FL as humble though sometimes it's too much
the annoyingly self hating fl are so annoying, he's obviously in love, shows his affection openly, told her he didn't marry her for gain or political reasona nd what does she think?

that's not only annoying bc she's being oblivious to the most obvious in your face show of love but she's being downright rude making the marquis out to be a manipulative bastard that used her to make his life better. like she's making him out to be a bad person and that's as downright villainous
