I mean i get it to an extent because it is harder to believe the good things people say about you when all you hear is the bad, but i would think it's just to get smth out of me, not cs they're just being nice

I've never been abused so I have no idea what it's like and I can sympathize for them but I don't understand how the ML saying he loves FL turns into "he's pitying me and only saying it to be nice" in her mind from what I've seen shes been told degrading things all her life? And I get that she WOULDN'T believe what a guy she just met says especially when it's a confession but I also don't think that the Normal reaction would be "he's doing it to be nice" ??? Like what
