This msg is going to be long brace yourself:
Regarding Joo Jaekyung's complexity:
Everything from his obsession to the being the absolute top, to his anger issues, to HIS JINX the whole reason why this story is happening in the first place. These things didn't appear out of thin air, especially in ch. 54 when his sleep paralysis demon is looking down on him and calling him worse than trash, it's got to stem from somewhere.
This whole cognitive dissonance with him not wanting anything to do w Dan but then immediately rushing to the village just because he found ONE clue to his whereabouts (ch.60) and another example is BASICALLY chapter 69 that's where his mind-body-heart are all over the place. (1)

Also if he's complex character, that doesn't excuse his actions, OBVIOUSLY! It's a reason not an excuse, and the whole point is that he's going to come face to face with what he's done so far and work on fixing it, that's where the redemption arc starts. We STILL haven't gotten his backstory for a reason. We spent 53 chapters establishing the horrible things he did to Kim Dan and now everyone expects this to be resolved in less than 20 chapters when we just got here.
In conclusion, he maybe an asshat but he's an asshat with layers! Plus, he's going to feel the consequences of his actions. (2)

my bone to pick with what you're saying is that you expect / want a redemption arc. if you want complex characters who actually pay and face consequences for their actions you wouldn't even expect a "redemption". the fact is that the author would never have the balls to make a good story that is as well written enough to have her characters face consequences. also you are confusing layered with complex. just because a character may have contradicting actions does not mean they're complex when they default between two modes. he hardly exhibits any emotions other than misaligned anger and self righteousness. if an author spends 53 chapters on graphic rape they need to learn how to trim and cut down their story to actually give a story. your character needs to grow and show purpose not stagnant on the same 3 emotions. you're just expecting too much. I'm seriously astounded you view him as complex.

Doesn't a character that has layers to his personality make him complex? Also complexity is a spectrum. You want morality so bad? I'm not even excusing his actions but you want to act like I'm a rape apologist for saying there's more to his character than just being angry 24/7. If you bothered to read the chapters you'd see his personality is more than that. Also like I said, the story is not complete, why are you brushing it off just because it doesn't fit your narrow minded view of how a story should be written?
You guys are too impatient with the resolution of a character's arc. You think that the conflict that the author took 2 years to establish is going to be resolved in less than 20 chapters????
ALSO 53 chapters of RAPE, WHAT twisted story are you reading? There is themes of power dynamics, issues of debt, companionship, sportsmanship, loneliness and family and the only thing you've zeroed on in the story is the rape........
Says a lot about your maturity level.
Chill with the word vomit, I hope you read more books that are not BL,
Touch grass!

For real though. The major trait we've seen in ML is obsession. From his obsession with his title creating a weird ass placebo (Jinx) to the point of spending a fortune hiring a boy toy bordering and often crossing the line into rape, and his obsession with said boy toy that escaped his selfish grip. He is a fucking man child with one neuron at the time when it comes to emotions, extremely impulsive and explosive. The only reason there is a plot is because MC got stockholm syndrome, complex ML my ass. Better said, this is the minimum to follow a character we've know for 50+ chapters, it's not bad but it's definitely not complex, it's simple and it's good for the story because regardless of what people say, this is porn over plot.
If the artist wasn't as talented, I'm 100% sure readers would realize how part of the bunch these characters and story really are. It's literally a generic "Overworked, self-less innocent MC is in massive debt with a hospitalized relative and meets an unlimited rich macho sexual beast guy that will use and abusive him until enfatuation is inevitable. MC will try to escape or succesfully escape and ML will have a redemption arc and LeArN tO lOvE."

it says more about your emotional maturity when you immediately jump to insulting me.
what I'm saying is that the "story" is bloated. jaekyung oscillates between two reactions to any situation. he repeats things over and over again. you're inflating the meagre theme of class difference and the power dynamics that come out of said financial disparity. yes, maybe something can be said about the ritual violence and toxic culture of the sports world but it's underutilised.
just because you break things into paragraphs does not mean you're less of a quote unquote word vomit. we are both equally loquacious.
as gragrill said, he is a man-child and the art is trying to make up for the generic, overdone, tired characters and plot. and also I like sakura gari and the carp on the chopping block jumps twice so if you actually want complex characters and good fucking writing. please go read good works of art.
Y'all want complex characters but you can't even handle Joo Jaekyung
Y'all want a complex BL with plot over porn, yet you all struggle to comprehend Jinx
