    Honey, it’s a cultural thing

When it comes to clothes that royals wear within a culture, a couple things are taken into consideration; climate, resources and the message.

Here they live in a warm climate, but clearly have an abundance of natural resources, so instead of layering on furs and cottons they show this through intensive detailing work like embroidery, and precious gems.

Additionally, a lack of footwear sends a message, like "I do not have to walk for myself". We see the Sha are largely transported via litters (palanquins without covers) and therefore aren't expected to use their feet outside. This is similar to how in East Asian cultures, fair skin was established as a sign of status because it meant you could afford to stay inside all day as you weren't a labourer.

My apologies for the long reply, but this is actually a really interesting topic. If you look at what British royals wear you can see it's all made of materials from their various overseas territories because they were bragging about their empire!

not actually considering this seems to be inspired by egypt under roman rule and i wouldn’t really care if it was servants but royals absolutely had longer clothes and layers because they were rich. I can ignore the no shoes though. But it’s whatever cause it’s fiction and it’s like a stereotypically thing in fiction to have your Egyptians in this clothing so it doesn’t really matter just a personal pet peeve!

I like long replies so need to apologize! the years and stuff of the story confuse me because the westerners have like a British empire look and the people we see look like Egypt under roman rule and they were quite conservative. but i don’t expect authors to research every little thing for their fantasy comic. But i’m really into fashion so to see them go the easy way out of beautiful North African/Middle eastern traditional fashion peeves me a little. I can get over it though but always in the back of my mind I’m thinking, “There’s barely any trees how do these people not have any skin protection. It’s not like they live in a tropical area??” but thats cause i’m a nerd lol

What do you mean stereotype? Yall dont get the point, the ppl in the novel dont represent a specific country irl. It’s purely fictional. And if you can see the character designs (if you have eyes) most of them are lacking clothing and fabric if you’re wondering why they’re like that. You can tell it’s cultural. So how is it not?

Shut the fck up. The reason why it’s labelled as fantasy because everyone is basically FICTIONAL. Maybe it’s specifically inspired by egyptian culture but doesn’t mean it’s literally egypt!! That’s why its setting is called Trastasa. Since when did the author officially say that this manhwa’s country was in egypt?? you dumb fuck?

Any story is free to draw inspiration from different cultures without needing to stay 100% faithful to the real-world version. That’s the whole point of fiction and fantasy, the author has the freedom to shape the setting however they want to fit their narrative.

It's not a requirement for every story to be always accurate anyway.

I don’t think it counts as cultural appropriation, especially if the story isn’t relying solely on the setting to carry the whole thing.
