Then to attribute this to a genre that centers around queer men who already have limited representation for the entertainment of straight women to indulge in these acts of sexual violence and act surprised when their entertainment is used against them to rationalize that this is what they themselves have shown they find desirable -with their wallets to back it up- find themselves maintaining and perpetuating the very rape and sexual violence culture they are the most affected by and victim to needs to be studied in terms of it’s psychological harm. It can be true that this fiction is a space for sexual exploration and desire, and it can also exist in misogyny and the patriarchy that is the defense of rape culture.

While we can acknowledge and recognize that these situations are bad in real life and that these authors create these stories with influence from greater real life ideals and oppressive systems, at the end of the day, this is not real.
