I get Hess, but in a way I think she doesn't realize this: Diana isn't actually in the center anymore. Kael doesn't love her, but he also doesn't hate her. He simply doesn't really care and chose to leave both her and the emperor behind. They are no longer at the center of his world. Right now they are only the center of Hess's world, and this is because she still chooses revenge.
That’s coz up until this point, she thinks like she’s just a character in a novel. In the novel, there’s actually more explanation why she felt that way. It feels so surreal for her that that is now her reality
