I have read other stories like this before, in order for someone to actually leave, sometimes you have to shatter their heart for them to not come back. It’s a necessary evil and was actually very smart. In terms of whats right and wrong, obviously Khalid is going to feel bad about it, but Knox only wanted the best and knew that his father was mistreating him. Getting Khalid kicked out of the household was the only plan that would’ve worked, but it would’ve been useless if Knox didn’t shatter Khalid’s heart because he would’ve kept coming back. This creates misunderstandings, yes, but that can be fixed later through communication, what was important was that Khalid would be out of an abusive household. In no way does Knox deserve to be tortured just for making a smart decision for the sake of Khalid, and I will die on this hill. Reanalyze your stories, look deeper before making assumptions of what’s right and wrong.

That's stupid cause things would end differently if he does better or actually did something and not just cast him out. And you eat your words cause what Knox did bites him back. He shattered Khalid emotionally and acts like nothing happened then expect Khalid to not feel anything? Protecting him? A kid be kicked out to the street? That's protecting to you? It's not simple though. After what Knox did to Khalid everything just went upside down for Khalid. While Knox lived his life.
