Both versions are recollections of the present and the future. There was never a version of the duke that didn't know of the future. In all version the wish was made. In all versions the duke pushed the mc away. If you reread the story our duke is still the past duke that traveled in the future.
This ain't grooming. He literally left Alois alone. He left him alone and didn't want him to end up regretting things, so he let him do whatever he wants and didn't stop him. But the uke liked the Duke from the very beginning as well. It was said "he returned" and he didn't like the child, he likes the older Alois who made the wish because the adult Alois love him for who he was (gay)!
