If I remember correctly, he fell in love with her looks but as it is with wierd church men, they think the reason they fell in love w her is because she is a witch or something, and for a priest love is sin so he wants to get rid of his sin
Adding to the other comment, i also read online that, it's also because she's a woman in power that they want to get rid of her.
Sorry to ask but can anyone explain why is the priest guy going after shuri?? I think it was mentioned before but I can't seem to remember.
