I dont get it what's wrong with vietnamese portrayal being dark skinned? Aren't rural viets and those usually in the south pretty dark skinned?

    I second this-
There are a range of skin tones in Vietnam..
Majority doesn't mean all. It's like saying there can't be people with light skin tones in Africa

    What a closed minded opinion

I mean yes but I'm saying Koreans and a lot of East Asian view south east Asians to be very dark skinned

Yes that I agree for sure but I'm just calling it out cause majority of Koreans view Vietnamese people or any south east Asian to be a much darker skin tone than them

Hm not everyone in the south is dark skinned as well though and if she was from like countryside in Vietnam did lots of work I agree yes dark skin but usually those who are are like elders who have worked that long In the sun to get to that skin tone so usually the shade would be lighter anyways I did a quick google search south Vietnamese people amd they r the same skin tone as the mc

Some are darker though because they live in a hotter area and more prone to be sunburnt and I mean the others in the manhwa who are elders and go out in the sun are pretty like just slightly tanned not as much as Vietnamese people who are much darker than them even though the elders have been in the sun longer?? It doesn't make sense because Vietnamese people genetically are usually not that dark and they usually get it from sun I got so many dislikes pointing this out it's not my fault Koreans like to portray south east Asians as much darker than them because they don't live in the city and live in tropical environments

When phrased that way then I definitely do agree-
It's definitely an issue especially w how blatantly obvious Koreans racism for SEA in gen TT..

Though I must say that the representation here seems to be more towards appreciation than discrimination especially since we went through a whole arc of how the neighborhood Korean kids appreciating and learning about the vietnamese culture
Sure it could've been done better, but personally I think in context w this manhwa (and the message they intend), I think it's a non issue and might actually be lil gateways for others to think similarly (don't be racist type shi-)

I see i see, but you still have yet to answer the question. What's wrong with Koreans viewing Vietnamese people as much darker skin tone than they are?

    In short-
It's not wrong (especially in the case of this manhwa)

    Long answer-
It totally depends on context. It's pretty chill for Koreans to view Viets to have darker skin tones especially if that's how they associate w them n Ofc it's awesome for that diversity to show in creative works, but intentions do matter. Most of the times it's positive intentions such as presented in this manhwa (n like I said previously, I do think it's a non issue in this case).

However, there are times when that is not the case (basically racism). Where sometimes people tend to associate certain people from certain places to be dirty and of lesser worth which tends to be tied back to their skin tones (or stereotypes in gen). This happens everywhere ofc, not specific to just Korea, though I did specify them as per context of this manhwa and the concerns of the op and gave my two cents based on my experiences (which is subjective)

Yes absolutely short answer is a lot of East Asian view people in the south as jungle people so they would have darker skin which is a stereotype it's gotten better with generations but in short it's like this
