The brother's awards are all academic, not for sports. That's why the mother was all like "They'll give awards out for anything these days" when it said it was for a sport. Looks like they think anything other than intellectual endeavors are a waste of time.

No they don't. We haven't seen any of his family besides his brother or learned much about them prior to this chapter. There is no reference to what his family does, and we've not seen the father at all. Just the mother, who appears to be a business woman and the brother who appears to be some sort of office worker as well.
I would also like to say the man at the door doesn’t look like he could lift a piece of paper much less have all those awards
