While not as common as other tropes, the whole “you remind me of my dead pet”, “you remind me of my pet back home” or “you remind me of my childhood dog” happens frequently enough that it’s almost odd. There’s even a pretty recently translated one that uses this idea. It I can’t remember the name. The guy literally lets his crazy coworker move in just because he reminds him of his dead dog

Right?! There is quite a few stories like that out there. I do think this trope is not as bad as dead lover replacement stories though. Especially the ones where the person gets with their dead lover’s relative *shudders*

Not overused as debt at least lol

Not a BL but it was a drama where a dude saw a girl in his class, minding her business mind you, and he takes one look at her and starts BAWLING. I’m talking he melted onto her lap crying about his dead dog that she reminded him about. I’m like…wtf?? If someone thought I looked like their pet dog I’d be turned off immediately

I guess for me it’s too common considering how weird it is? While I agree that getting with a sibling is strange, it’s at least somewhat grounded in reality. It could happen. But meeting some random dude and wanting him sexually because he… reminds you of your cat? That’s a lil weird lol. I just don’t understand why this kind of plot is used as often as it is

Debt is realistic and comes with savior-complex to boot. It’s much more realistic that a guy wants to bone his savior than… a dude that reminds him of his childhood chihuahua.

Idk about dead pet plots, but the “you look like a dog” line is used a loooooooooot. Especially in Korean BL. If I had a dollar for every time a manwha character says “he looks like a puppy” to their love interest, I’d be filthy rich.

and they’re right, debt tropes are indeed overused than this one and not much realistic either. who’s gonna swoop in to pay off millions of your debt just in return for love? only fictions i’m afraid bcs you won’t find that kind of things here, if there’s one do lmk i need them to pay off my debt too

Not totally off the table, I really like someone, it's an impossible love, I gift them money many times and will do in the future if I have money and they ask for it. (It's not a lot of money but they definitely were glad for the little loose change I could give them).

If for me this is ok, I believe that someone with a better economic situation than me and that really likes someone troubled with money will make this hypothetical person willingly gift or at least lend them money. (Just for looking good for that person)

I mean there are people that become addicted to host clubs in Japan, sugar daddies or mamas are also real, just and example.

that’s a different cases, spoiling when you genuinely like someone is different than random people suddenly fall from the sky and pay off your debts, that’s unrealistic and not likely gonna happen to everyone. most of those fictions are people who’s rich but then pay off debts for some strangers that they don’t even know of. you won’t find sugar mommies or daddies that want to sponsor you without bond together or at least know eo.

what i’m talking about is previous op was right, debt tropes are very very overused and boring in fictions rather than this current manga’s genre but then the og op said “at least it’s realistic” which is contradicts to irl for me as there’s no one sane enough that want to pay off stranger’s debt tho, that’s not realistic that’s just fictional and it stays there.

personally i don’t find wanting to bond with someone bcs of your past pet is realistic either but to say debt tropes is realistic is kinda laughable too. compared to debt tropes, at least this one is not that overused and doesn’t have the same ish boring, predictable plots (paid off debts, got abused, chasing arc, redemption arc, fall in love - same textbook). that’s what i’m talking about, just trying to set things straight that both tropes are unrealistic but one of them is indeed overused, therefore previous op was right.
