Almost all FL revenge archetypes involve some the risk of some form of mortal danger or large scale destruction. Desperation and betrayal are transformed into courage and determination, but point being, they usually have a very clear threat that must be avoided, or injustice that must be righted that gives them direction. Taking desperate and extreme measures is only natural when your are at extreme risk, but a lot harder if you’re not under threat. Olivia’s journey is different.
She just doesn’t have a lot of options to begin with. If she runs away she will have to live as a commoner, but she has no skills to make a living other than as a menial laborer. She remembers how excruciating it was to live in poverty, so she’s not going to make that choice carelessly, but probably not at all.
Her own family and the entire noble class mistreat, insult, and disrespect her, so she’s used to suffering those emotional wounds. That’s the treatment she gets even when she does everything in her power to be an “ideal” daughter, sister, fiancée, and noblewoman. She will never become a legitimate child, so why would she fight something she has no authority over when the treatment she will receive will probably be the same?
Abused and neglected children often end up in abusive and neglectful relationships because they don’t recognize the red flags or understand how they should be treated. It would never occur to her to fight against her treatment until someone showed her how she should be treated well. She just never realized that there could be someone out there who would look at her with affection rather than annoyance and contempt.
That’s when she began to rebel against the indignities she faced. She’s still struggling and growing like any other FL, but she’s going through an internal process rather than an external one. She is coming to terms with her abuse and beginning to recognize her inherent value and self worth.
It’s not as dramatic as foiling scheming assassins, deposing tyrants, or taking vengeance on your would be murderers, but it’s still a significant and relevant process. People may be used to a lot of drama forcing the FL to grow, but it takes a lot of strength to do what Olivia is beginning to do, and she is much more relatable to people in real life than most other FL’s situations.
I find it funny based on one of these comment saying they hate the fl because she's annoying and weak UH GIRL?? U EXPECT ALL FL TO BE STRONGMINDED AND DO REVENGE
