I think what a lot of people are looking over is the main reason why she has chosen to imprison Ash.
She explained it quite well. He's Ash terrifying to keep next to her, dangerous. He isn't trustworthy, he's duplicitous and quick to bite the hand that feeds him when it suits him best, all while portraying the facade of a perfect and loyal dog.
This is showcased at such a young age, and yes she is comparing him to how he is in the future, but this is due to the fact she sees him as a lost cause. He is acting currently like his future self does, telling her that whether his actions are a product of his environment or his nature, he has been this way for a while and is not something you can easily teach out of them or tame.
And the most dangerous thing, he does all of this whilst having the ability to kill with no remorse.
Tell me how many of you would want to keep a psycho child as your loyal dog.

Fr like, I get how he'd be terrifying as an adult, but he's a child. There's little to no animosity or premeditation behind his "betrayals", he simply does whatever he can to survive. She's older in the body of a child so it makes sense that she'd forget normal children aren't as "smart" as her, but still poor kids...

Yeah, but there is a reason 8 year old kids aren't tried and punished as adults. Especially when they are starving out of their mind and are promised food. I know that they are going with the angle of 'he is without conscience even as a kid' to justify the FL's actions. That's why they showed him angry when FL said he will be imprisoned, instead of showing him despairing which would've garnered him sympathy.
But maybe its just me, I don't understand how the FL, being an adult, has no qualms punishing and 7/8 year old to life imprisonment. Not to mention, she freely exploits oleg and her fiancee's affection for her while being extremely cold and calculating to them. They are KIDS, she is an ADULT.

0) Juvenile Prison/Court is a thing.
1) This is not the XXIe century.
2) He is a commoner.
3) He is a refugee.
4) He was hungry. He burned the food. He was hungry. He killed someone. Starving out is not a legitimate reason to commit reason... not it is an intelligible one for burning the damn food supposed to feed you.
5) Of course, he will be angry. Who like to be accountable for their bad actions? He made so many bad decisions, but he feels no shame nor remorse. He only feels bad to the "lady" because his life is on the line.
6) Garnered him sympathy? Is the MC running a charity to you? To the point of recruiting a stabbing b1tch?
7) Are you reading the story? Ash committed arson, attempted murder, and plotted against a house? These are CRIMES. And she never said that she would jail him, she would let the law settle scores with him, cause he is indeed a criminal. HE SET A FIRE TO A WHOLE CAMP!
8) Oleg needs discipline. He was a freackin' bully. I can tell the MC has a soft spot for him. She truly sees Oleg as a kid with Daddy issues.
9) For the fiance, he is pushing his luck. She rejected him more than once, he is the one desperately tagging along her. She might as well make her time worth and gets some business done.
10) She is cold and calculating. That's how she is. Like, do you know what kind of story you are reading? The MC is not running for Saint of the Year. She has a mission! She has PRIORITIES.
11) Okay. You may call her an adult and the other, kids, but it changes absolutely nothing.
12) Being a kid does not mean that you are above the laws. He is a criminal! And arsonist on top!

Guess you don't grow in an Asian household (that's just my assumption dony take it to heart)
Look someone already said all of the things our kid did, and just by the look of it the supposed child wsnt even guilty of doing those things, just to gain what he wants, and still being a child if he got away with that then what would he think in the future? There's a higher chance he'd do it again. And in this Era bro would've been killed on the spot for such heinous crimes even if they're a child specially since he is one of the people who tried to kill a noble A NOBLE and locking him up is just pity enough

Lol, I'm very asian. Grew up in asia. But I do know that children are not to be punished like this when they are that young. If a child commits something that heinous, it means they need help and understanding, not imprisonment. And while in olden days this was probably not possible and children were probably punished harshly, the FL herself is a modern person. She has also experienced cruelty at the hands of adults around her. Then she of all people should absolutely not be mistreating the kids around her.
so while the FL isn't an idiot and is in fact an interesting character, she has the same character flaw as penelope. She will use people with impunity and discard them as it suits her. Worse actually, coz she, an adult, is using these 6-12 year old boys who are immature and a byproduct of their surroundings. She knows Ash didn't plot or instigate anything against her, but because in the book a much older version of him executed the character she is possessing, she will imprison him as a kid.
