what do yall think the petals symbolize?

I think they symbolize his grief for his brother they both gave each other different coloured roses on their graduation his was blue and I’m pretty sure his brothers was red. Whenever he sees one he thinks of his brother, but it’s all him just hallucinating, so that’s why I can’t believe the guy actually caught it cause he thought he could only see them.
