I get that y’all are saying it’s just context and not justification, but that’s exactly my point — it’s context used to justify. If it wasn’t, they could’ve just given him a normal background. But instead, they drop the trauma right before the character is about to get more “humanized,” and now watch how Dan starts seeing Jaekyung differently despite everything he’s done to him. That’s what I meant by “it’ll make everyone forget.” It’s a common tactic to soften the blow and get the audience to feel bad for the guy, even if no one outright says “he’s forgiven.”
I hateeee it when authors know there’s no way to excuse a characters actions so they introduce some child abuse as if it’ll make everyone forget the bs they did
