Forgiving someone can also be a way to move on. Maybe this story is pointing towards her trying to have closure from her past life and remember the happy memories. so she can live her current one.
Not sure about the hero and princess. like you said maybe it was because of the story. Maybe killing themselves was never in their mind because that is not part of a Hero narrative. Like a puppet. I don't know.
I didn’t really get the realization for the princess and knight redemption? What was the reason to kill her, if you’re gonna feel bad after then just don’t do it?
And this might seem morbid but if it’s the case that the story is “forcing” them to kill her, then just kill yourself to not harm your friend. If someone was forcing me to stab my loved one, I’d just stab myself you know, cause killing them yourself and living on seems like more suffering.
I don’t get this forgiveness narrative of the story, cause even her brother that was horrible to her (and is now the king) why should she have to appease their souls to find peace? They are the ones who betrayed her, shouldn’t it be the other way around?
