1) how can you tell that che doesn't care about anyone? We really didn't see much about him. He wasn't doing well at the start and he doesn't seem to have much of a family.
2) even if he didn't care about anyone(which is debatable) he still doesn't deserve to go through all this.
The problem with our protag is just that he doesn't care about anyone. I know that he probably doesn't deserve what is happening but you can't just mess with people and expect no consequences. He's an asshole who messed with a crazy person.
