I think it’s important to remember this is a BL story, and in this genre, the seme is almost always written as the main love interest. The story is about him becoming better and earning the uke’s love, rather than being treated as a pure villain like in other genres.
We also kind of know how these stories usually go: it’s about their messy journey toward love, and seeing how the seme changes is part of what makes it compelling for fans of the trope.
