Carcel is actually smarter and wiser than most of these characters. He’s not relying on memories to live so he doesn’t have a cheat card like them. He’s living and making decisions as he goes and he’s never made any fatal decisions that destroyed anyone’s life. He also knew all along something was wrong with Ines and often came pretty close to guessing the truth.
Anyway, regarding your question you asked on my other post, here is the conversation from the novel that shows what Emiliano and Carcel talked about. I mixed up the pendant vs child but I corrected the post. I went back to look up the chapter:
—————————-
Carcel: Later, as soon as the wound recovers, go to Sevilla and take Inés and the child. Not right now…
Emiliano: Lady Inés....
Carcel: She's at a hideout in Sevilla.
Present Day Emiliano: I killed the child. I betrayed the grace you had given us, when I went back there and got caught."
Emiliano: May I dare ask you for one more favor?
Carcel: It's not enough to save you?
Emiliano: I'm sorry... but I have no one but you to ask.
Carcel: Say it.
He asks Carcel to find the pendant as the jeweler/pawn shop and deliver it to Ines.
Carcel: How can I deliver it to your wife? I won't even know where you guys will live by then.
Emiliano: We'll probably be separated soon...
Carcel: You're breaking up after all this difficulty? I'm amazed.
Emiliano: Lady Inés will soon return to where she was.
Carcel: Then you.
Emiliano: I'll probably take our child away far away. Peral, anywhere. To a very far place...... A place where I can't hurt Lady Inés.’

Truth. It’s always them with their kneejerk reaction. The double standards are also so blatant. It’s okay for Ines to spend 17 years plotting divorce against Carcel but it’s not okay for Carcel to even consider divorcing Ines for like a few hours. Never mind he’s simply trying to fulfill her wish. The GOOD thing about this is the topic will not be swept under the rug. It will be dealt with in the near future. The fact that Ines plotted 17 years against him to use him and dump him.

For real. I think his “sillier” personality that he has around Ines make people think he’s dumb despite him only acting like that cause that’s his wife and he loves her. Also it’s kind of ridiculous to think that cause his thought process and actions show otherwise. Also every time Carcel misunderstands something, people forget he doesn’t have his memories unlike most of the main characters.
Wait why are people saying Carcel is canonically stupid? I feel like the entire arc in season 2 where Ines and Carcel are apart from one another did a great job showing Carcel is in fact very intelligent.
Also in the beginning of season 2, if Ines hadn’t gaslit and guilt-tripped Carcel into sounding crazy, Carcel was about to figure out ines’ whole plan of using him as a pawn who she will later divorce. I feel like it’s clear he’s very smart.
Even this chapter, he has a solid plan when deciding to divorce Ines. The only reason it sucks isn’t cause it’s dumb, but cause Ines likes carcel now and wouldn’t want to divorce him anymore. But Carcel obviously doesn’t fully understand that, not cause he’s dumb, but cause he doesn’t have all of the information yet.
