I felt the same. ML seems rude even before they meet: sending a stand-in for what would've been a public wedding ceremony if they princess hadn't insisted on leaving early.
Rude or not, that man knows how to survive. Sending a stand-in is smart when you consider where she’s from to be “enemy territory.” It makes sense especially since they’re to be married later on. The fact that the prime minister tried to kill her on her way to Nord makes it even smarter since we now know he has no clue what the duke actually looks like so he’d never be able to get the drop on him.
