I think a lot of people are missing that even tho Dan had a traumatic childhood, he had someone who loved him and never let him go, constantly on his side. Jaekyung didn't have that. Even if it's no excuse for turning into what he is in the present, it kinda gives us an insight on why it happened. But the thing is, he's done it all by now and the next best outcome is that he realizes his wrongdoings and reconciles with his past to be a better person from now onwards. He deserves a chance to that at least.
Dan's help was his grandmother while Jae's was the trainer, we literally saw him getting fed and have a good place to stay where he got comforted, while I agree with the rest I think the trainer and the granny are supposed to have the same type of role in their life
