In short:
Chase first rut, there was no one to spend it with. Grayson paniced and brought his dog Alex ( as a last resort, in his mind), Chase passed out. They took his pheromones out by injection.
Chase can't remember anything, but that there was a dog present. No one told him what really happened. And Graysons uses his doubts to get him to the pheromone parties, where they take out Chase's pheromones by injection after he passes out, since Chase is not willing to get rid of his pheromones any other way.
